Bluesky is open, cheap to read and still small enough that a helpful reply from a founder is noticed. It has none of X's read costs and most of X's sentence shapes: people ask what to use, complain about what they have, and post "anyone know a" threads that are easy to find. For an early-stage product it is worth an account from day one.
How reading works
The AT Protocol exposes search over posts. You search for the same intent phrases you would on Reddit ("what do you use for", "alternative to", "anyone recommend") combined with your problem space, and you get a stream you can score. There is no rate meter to watch, which is why we include it on every plan.
The posting rhythm
Bluesky punishes volume more than Reddit does; people mute quickly. Two or three replies a day and a couple of original posts a week is plenty for a warmed account. Original posts do best when they are one idea, lightly wry, and not a thread of six.
The 300-character limit
Replies have to be short, which forces the good shape: answer, one clause of disclosure if the product is relevant, stop. Links are fine when they answer the question, which is more often than on Reddit.
Warming still applies
A new account that replies with links in its first days gets muted and reported like anywhere else. Spend the first week being useful with no mentions, the first month with no links to your own site.
Feeds and starter packs
Custom feeds and starter packs are how people find accounts. Being included in a good starter pack for your niche is worth more than a month of posting. You earn that by being useful in the replies of the people who curate them.
What not to automate
Likes, follows and reposts. The social graph is the whole product on Bluesky and automating it is both visible and pointless.
